Construits en carton récupéré, les poissons volants de l'Archipel des Cinq Citadelles constituent une œuvre immersive développée spécialement pour l'exposition itinérante internationale Small is Beautiful Art. Voyage palpitant et poétique autour d'un capitaine explorateur, l'installation se projette autour des mondes miniatures.
Built from reclaimed cardboard, the flying fishes of the Archipelago of the Five Citadels are part of an immersive artwork created for the international exhibition Small is Beautiful Art. The installation depitcs an exciting and poetic journey about an explorer captain, and takes place into a miniature world.

C’est l’histoire d’un banc de poissons-fossiles venu à notre rencontre : suspendu dans les airs, léger et aérien, un groupe de cœlacanthes traverse l’espace silencieusement. Ces poissons préhistoriques primitifs et minéraux, en carton de récupération totalement brut, portent sur eux des cités miniatures, comme issus des profondeurs de la terre et porteurs de légendes. Mi créatures fantastiques, mi spécimens de science-fiction, ils nous renvoient à notre propre humanité.
A la fois aériens et sous-marins, silencieux mais bien présents, ils racontent des histoires oubliées et réveillent notre âme d’enfant.
Et, tout devant, comme le joueur de flute de Hamelin, une minuscule embarcation mène la danse …
L’Archipel des Cinq Citadelles, c’est d’abord s’inspirer des nombreux cours d’eau, sources, cascades et biefs, clin d’œil à nos origines auvergnates. C’est se questionner sur la migration des saumons qui remontent chaque année le cours de leur ruisseau natal; mais aussi sur le cœlacanthe, un poisson extraordinaire qu’ont pensait disparu, et que l’on ne connaissait que sous forme de fossile. Un poisson-fossile, tout en facettes, presque minéral, qui répond aux lignes architecturales d’inspiration orientale et aux lignes géologiques. C’est enfin imaginer des récits et des légendes, une odyssée fantastique entre profondeur des abysses et immensité galactique.

This is the story of a shoal of fossil fishes. Suspended in the air, light and airy, a group of cœlacanths crosses the space silently. These primitive prehistoric fishes, made of upcycled cardboard, carry on them miniature cities. Certainly are they coming from the depths of the earth and bearers of legends. In short, half fantastic creatures, half sci-fi specimens, they reflect our own humanity.
Both aerial and submarine, silent but strong, they tell forgotten stories and awaken our child’s soul.
And just ahead, like the Hamelin’s flute player, a tiny boat leads the way …
The Archipelago of the Five Citadels is inspired by the many rivers, springs, waterfalls and streams from our Auvergne origins. It is a question about the migration of the salmon which goes up each year the course of its natal stream; but also on the cœlacanth, an extraordinary fish only known in the form of a fossil. Above all a fish-fossil, all faceted, almost mineral, which responds to the architectural lines of oriental inspiration and geological lines. Let’s imagine stories and legends, to sum up, a fantastic odyssey between the depths of the abyss and the galactic immensity.
